Eco-Monument is a 33-minute video work capturing the emergent ecologies of Tamale, Ghana, at the scale of the urban area and its adjacent landscapes. The linear aerial footage peruses the urban-rural landscapes of Tamale and makes visible the intra-peripheral scenarios of the metropolitan area in a linear trajectory from east to west. The work was filmed over one year, tracing a single path that crosses Tamale’s complete extents, from outskirt to center and back out again. The unfolding change, emergence, and irresolution visible in this city portrait point towards urgent questions regarding Tamale’s current situation and the future development of the city.
